BARCELONA - The sunny capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain is one of the world's leading tourist and cultural centres, famous for its breathtaking architecture, vibrant art scene and excellent restaurants. Barcelona is the 16th-most-visited city in the world and the fourth most visited in Europe after Paris, London, and Rome, with several million tourists every year (2011).

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers. Its average annual temperature during the day is 20 °C (68 °F). The city has a beautiful beach which was listed as number one in a list of the Top 10 city beaches in the world according to National Geographic and Discovery Channel. It is definitely one of the city's biggest attractions, especially in summer.

The traditional importance of textiles is reflected in Barcelona's drive to become a major fashion centre. Current exhibition at the Palau Robert, Barcelona Prêt-à-Porter, 1958-2008, is a fascinating journey through the fifty years of Catalan fashion.

The city offers a lot of shopping opportunites. The main shopping line stretches from the top of the Ramblas, through Plaça de Catalunya along Passeig de Gràcia and up Avenue Diagonal. Some streets are closed for traffic making it a pleasant experience to wonder from shop to shop.
