It’s Christmas time again, and everyone’s gearing up for festivities - gift shopping, decorating, carolling and Christmas parties. Whether it be work or pleasure, deciding what to wear if you have multiple social engagements can be a nightmare. To help make things simpler, here are some tips to keep you on track and looking glamorous throughout the festive season, no matter whether you’re attending a works do, a night out with friends, or a relaxed celebration with family at home.

Keep it Classic

A-line and shift dresses are great examples of classic shaped clothing which never go out of style. These shapes are flattering and smart, and can be worn seamlessly through from day to night - just change pumps for stilettos and add some statement jewellery. Investing in quality classic items will pay dividends in the long run; if you want to add a splash of a seasonal trend, use accessories - it means outfits can be worn for several seasons without dating.

Glitz and Sparkle

‘Tis the festive season, and everyone likes a bit of glam. Diamantes, sequins and glitter are always big this time of year. It’s best not to overdo it unless you’re feeling brave; limit statement clothing to one item per outfit. For example, a sequined top with plain black trousers, or a colourful dress with nude shoes and jacket.

Make it Work

It can be daunting coordinating a number of different outfits for several parties in a row. However, with some careful planning, it’s possible to put together a Christmas event wardrobe which will see you through. Separates are great for this as they can be mixed and matched - sticking to one palette of colours makes it much easier to coordinate different pieces easily. Again, accessorising is an easy way to restyle outfits - it’s surprising how much difference a belt, a change into glamorous heels or adding statement jewellery can make.

Some Like it Hot

...Or warm at least. Keeping the cold at bay is a must at this time of year, but doesn't necessarily have to mean drowning in layers. Faux fur is a classic way of adding warmth but not bulk to an outfit, whilst keeping ultra chic. Fur collars, trimmed gloves and luxurious scarves will all keep you warm without ruining a sleek, carefully put together look underneath.

Pattern Me Pretty

Patterned prints have very much stayed on trend from summer to autumn/winter ‘13. Colourful peg leg trousers match perfectly with leather brogues and a neutral top. Bright prints don’t have to mean pastel palettes, warm colours like oranges, pinks and blues work well this season. Vanessa G’s latest collection combines classic lines and colourful patterns to create stunning pieces which will surely be a hit at any Christmas function.
