What is it about Parisian women that they manage to seem so chic all the time? Their effortless yet invariably polished aesthetics, of course. So how do you create a wardrobe that has you covered? Answer: build your wardrobe from the ground up, and by that we mean invest in the fashion staples found in every Parisian lady's closet.
From Breton-striped tees to high-rise denim jeans, channel French-girl style with these must-have items:
1. Blazer
Every French woman purportedly has at least one blazer in her wardrobe, because it is a timeless addition to any look. A tailored blazer easily elevates a casual daytime look (like a white-tee-and-skinny-jeans combo) but also adds a touch of gentlemanly charm to any feminine look (like a floaty maxi dress). Pair a boxy blazer with lux fabrics like satin for a contrast.

2. Striped Tee
Ask any French woman, and she likely cites a striped tee as one of their wardrobe basics. Stripes is a popular print because it is simultaneously strong and discreet. In fact, some Frenchwomen prefer the Breton striped tees even more than plain white ones, and they wear these as a neutral that anchors their entire outfit.

3. Trench Coat
Aside from a handy scarf, a trench coat is another must-have to tackle the capricious Parisian weather. This classic, trans-seasonal outerwear lends some dimension to your outfit while keeping you dry. Go for tweed or cashmere when you're in a chilly environment, and one in a slouchier cut when the weather is cool.
4. High-Rise Denim
What was once know as mom jeans has now become a mainstay in many a French woman's wardrobe. Agreeable with a pair of Converse on errand day or with a pair of heels for an evening look, high-rise denim is so versatile and flattering you will want to live in them.
It can take a while to find the perfect fit for your body, but once you've found it there is no separating you two. It is the cool-girl staple now that is effortlessly chic whether you wear it with a satin blouse or a chambray shirt.

5. Flirty Blouse
French women ooze sex appeal without either trying too hard or revealing too much. They are confident of their sexuality and sexiness, but are never trashy. A flirty blouse revealing a flash of lace - be it a camisole or bra - underneath is a subtle touch to their everyday look.
Pair an off-the-shoulder blouse with high-waist denim shorts for a romantic, feminine look that is perfect for a picnic date, or cigarette pants and strappy stilettos for a night out in town.

6. The Little Black Dress
No list would be complete without this timeless classic. Now available in a myriad styles and cuts, there is no reason to say you can't find an LBD that suits you.
