When you are moving into your new apartment it can be quite stressful, especially when you are on a tight budget. You might think that you don't need a lot of things to set up your new living space, but once you start you will realise just how much things you need in order to live a comfortable life.

Your list will only start getting bigger and bigger and you might get worried that you won't be able to have all the things that you need. But there are some tips on how you can set up your new apartment without it breaking your budget.

Think About What You Actually Need and Not What You Want

All of us have the look of the dream apartment in our heads and in most cases, it looks like something out of a magazine. But unfortunately, those magazine dream homes are usually expensive to recreate and might require professional help and that is not something that most can afford. Instead of thinking about how you can't have your dream apartment, think about what are the budget-friendly options.

Start by acquiring all the simple things that you need in your daily life. Acquire utensils, bowls, pans and all the things that you will need to function normally. Once you have all your basics then you can find ways to accessorize your apartment. Try to pick decor that can be used for something instead of it just sitting there. Keep in mind that you don't need to have a lot of sets of things; a set of towels, sheets and utensils is enough.

Find Furniture and Appliances That Are Double-Duty

When you are equipping your apartment on a budget it is important that you choose things that can double in duty. Look for things that you can find multiple useless for like ottomans that have built-in storage, tables that can be folded to create more space or futons that can transform into a guest bed. Before you purchase something for your new apartment you should think about what its uses are and if it's practical.

When you are looking for appliances for your kitchen, look for ones that will serve you with multiple purposes. That will not only save you money it will save you space.

In most cases, apartments come with a limited amount of space. Therefore you will want to purchase things where you will be able to store more things to prevent clutter. Choose things like benches that can open that will hold all the things that have nowhere to go and still provide you with a seating space. That way you will make your room look clean and more put together. Always look for bargains and wait for appliances to be marked off. It is better to wait and save money than to be broke.

Pay Attention to the Rugs

A great way to decorate your apartment and make it look and feel like a home is to add rugs. There is no need to go out and purchase fancy rugs, all you need is a simple area rug. If you have neutral simple furniture, instead of going out and buying decorations to spice up the place, you will simply want to find a rug that will add a pop of colour. Instead of trying to find fun rugs, you can buy a simple one and DIY it to your liking. Another great way to save on decor is getting an indoor door mat that will not only be useful but it will make your apartment look put together.

Decorate Your Walls

There are plenty of ways that you can decorate your walls without breaking your bank. The simplest way to make your apartment look amazing is by painting your walls.

If you are comfortable with waking up with colourful walls, there are ways to decorate them on a tight budget. You can look for things like tapestries that will make your walls more interesting. Another fun way that you can do so is by resting a gallery wall with your postcards that you have acquired over the years. Along with that, you can cut out pictures out of magazines and create dream boards or frame pictures or illustrations that you like.

Find Cheap Furniture and Give It a Makeover

Instead of searching and searching for furniture that you like that's not over your budget or buying something that you don't like that will fall apart because it's cheap, find second-hand furniture that you can makeover. There are many places that offer hand-me-downs for free, thrift shops or yard sales that will sell the furniture for very little money and there are interesting pieces that you will be able to find.

Once you have acquired the furniture pieces that you like, think about how you would like them to look once you are done with it. In most cases, all you will need is some sandpaper, paint and some new headwear if you want. All of that will cost you less than purchasing brand new furniture. If you are really into DIY’s you can even change the piece of furniture's purpose. If you play your cards right you can create something that will look like a fancy custom made piece of furniture on which you spend loads of money on.

Cheap Plants Are the Best Decorations

Every home needs to have plants. But when you are picking out plants that you will put in your apartment, you should choose ones that are less expensive and ones that don't require much maintenance or light. That is because if you choose ones that require much maintenance and they die you will essentially lose a decoration that you have paid for. You can even find fake plants that are on clearance that can look quite real.

If you don't like plants that are alive and don't want to spend money on those kinds of things, you can simply go out in nature and pick some flowers for a bouquet or find some whimsical branches that will fill your empty spaces. No matter what option you go for, having some form of nature inside your apartment will make it look complete as well as making your space look polished.

Always Use Your Imagination

When you are on a small budget you must keep an open mind and let your imagination run free when trying to find pieces that will look good in your apartment. Never go to bargain shops or outlets without ideas of what you need to make and what things you are looking for. When you are looking around, think about all the things that you can make out of that piece. Without your imagination and ideas, you are less likely to succeed.

Mix Quality Pieces with Cheap Finds

If you have acquired some nicer and more expensive furniture you can incorporate them with less expensive finds. It is important that you be original and that you find a way to incorporate everything evenly. You don't want to put all your nice furniture together and then decorate one whole room with cheap finds. You will want to equally divide them throughout your apartment so it is all balanced.

Decorating your apartment on a budget is totally doable all you need to do is be creative and have patience. But it is important that you keep in mind that you don't have to let your standards drop just because you are working on a tight budget. There are a lot of things that are either cheap or free that look amazing.

When you are your own personal stylist, you have to know that keeping your space clean and decluttering it is the best way to let your decorations shine. You don't have to have a lot of things in order to have a decorated apartment, all you need are pieces that you love and your apartment will look amazing.
