New York’s Runway 7 partners with Fashion Art Toronto and hosts free conference to open doors for Canadian designers

November 7, 2023 (Toronto, Canada & New York, NY) - Canadian designers are descending on our biggest city for Fashion Art Toronto. And New York’s Runway 7 will be in attendance to bring some of them to the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week 2024, held this February 8 to 11 at the iconic Sony Hall in Times Square.

“We want to present our Made in Canada initiative to get Canadian talent in front of a live audience and provide opportunities by presenting their latest collections at New York Fashion Week,” explains Christina Kovacs, Partnership Director at Runway 7, the largest runway show which presented 110 brands from over 16 countries this past September at NYFW.

“NYFW is one of the ‘Big Four’ events in the industry, but there's a barrier for entry: mainly, lack of information. So we’re holding two free meet and greet sessions to inform Canadian brands on how they can grow onto a global stage,” she adds.

Runway 7 Fashion has already helped amplify many notable Canadian designers, including Scott Wabano, the first Indigenous brand to showcase a collection on such a broad scale.

“Showcasing with Runway 7 Fashion not only achieved a goal of mine to showcase during NYFW, but it has helped accelerate the Indigenous Fashion movement and how important it is to include and celebrate the art and stories that have been on this land since time immemorial,” says Wabano, a Toronto-based two-spirit Indigenous fashion designer and founder of WABANO.

“Since showcasing, I’ve received invites to also showcase collections at Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and LA Fashion Week. I’m proud to say that we are officially Forbes 30 Under 30 certified and I just know, this was possible with the amazing help from Runway 7 Fashion. So much love for them!”

“One of our goals is to represent cultural diversity in the fashion industry,” says Kovacs. “We would love to meet more designers and help accelerate their momentum.”

The Made In Canada initiative info sessions will run November 18th and 19th from 11am to 1pm at Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto. Designers interested in attending this event can submit their request via the company’s official instagram page @runway7fashion or email: info@runway7fashion.com.
