BRITISH FASHION AWARDS

London, UK - The British Fashion Council hosted a reception at The Savoy Hotel yesterday to announce the shortlisted nominees for the British Fashion Awards 2012. 

The British Fashion Awards celebrate the breadth and depth of talent in the British fashion industry from the emerging stars to the designer brands, models and style icons, from creatives through to awarding the ultimate accolade, Designer of the Year. The evening is attended by the most influential industry leaders, designers, retailers, celebrities, models and media to celebrate the best in British fashion. The winners will be announced at this year’s award ceremony, taking place on Tuesday 27th November. The event will be hosted by Lauren Laverne and Nick Grimshaw.

The British Fashion Awards 2012 nominees are:

1. EMERGING TALENT AWARD – READY-TO-WEAR
An innovative and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British fashion in the ready-to-wear category.

2. EMERGING TALENT AWARD – ACCESSORIES
An innovative and directional accessories designer who is emerging as an influential force in British fashion in the Accessories category.

3. EMERGING TALENT AWARD – MENSWEAR
An innovative and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British menswear ready-to-wear design.

4. MODEL
A British model who has contributed most to the international fashion scene in the past year.
Nominees: Cara Delevingne, David Gandy, Jourdan Dunn

5. DESIGNER BRAND
A leading British based designer brand that has excelled and made an impact on the international stage over the past year.
Nominees: Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Mulberry, Stella McCartney

6. MENSWEAR DESIGNER
A leading British designer of ready-to-wear and bespoke tailoring who has been instrumental in enhancing men's fashion in the past year.
Nominees: Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Oliver Spencer, Richard James

7. ISABELLA BLOW AWARD FOR FASHION CREATOR
A British creative, stylist, make-up artist, photographer, art director or producer whose creativity has been a major inspiration and influence in the past year.
Nominees: Edward Enninful, Katie Grand, Professor Louise Wilson OBE

8. RED CARPET AWARD
Gives recognition to a British designer who is creating global awareness of their designs through Red Carpet dressing and the resulting media coverage. 
Nominees: Alessandra Rich, Roksanda Ilincic, Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham 

9. ACCESSORY DESIGNER
The leading British designer of shoes, jewellery, millinery or accessories within the past year.

10. NEW ESTABLISHMENT AWARD
The New Establishment Award recognises a particular movement in British fashion that is taking the industry by storm.

11. DESIGNER OF THE YEAR
The ultimate accolade, which recognises an internationally acclaimed, leading British designer of couture, ready-to-wear, knitwear or accessories who has directed the shape of fashion in the past year both in the UK and internationally.

This year, the British Fashion Awards will also celebrate two additional awards: the BFC Outstanding Achievement Award and this year’s British style icon, as voted for by the public through the British Style Award, brought to you by Vodafone. The award, which was won by Alexa Chung in 2010 and 2011, will be presented at this year’s British Fashion Awards. This award is to recognise an individual who most embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital.

Voting will be open until Wednesday 31st October. Voters will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to attend the British Fashion Awards ceremony.

The New Establishment award was introduced in 2011 and returns this year to recognise a designer who over the past two seasons has been forging an international career and gained critical acclaim from a global audience. The award this year is hotly contested between nominees ErdemJonathan Saunders and Meadham Kirchhoff

Designer of the Year is the highest accolade, recognising a leading British based designer brand of couture, ready-to-wear, knitwear or accessories that has directed the shape of fashion in the past year and elevated their international reputation. Nominated are designers Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou and Stella McCartney.

“2012 has been a momentous year and seen a nationwide celebration of British talent. The British Fashion Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional individuals and brands who’ve defined our fashion industry over the past year and we’re incredibly proud to announce these nominees who represent a cross section of British fashion talent.” - Harold Tillman CBE, Chairman of the British Fashion Council.

Nominations for these awards are made by the BFC press committee, menswear panel and international opinion formers within the industry. The winners will be selected by relevant panels of leading British and international media and buyers later this year. Find out more about the Nomination Panel.
