LONDON, UK - Fashion Studio Magazine selected the most interesting fashion & art events happening in London in December 2013. Design duo Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, known for their theatrical collections which reference past eras, will be the subject of the V&A’s next Fashion in Motion event. Highly recommended!

V&A's What's On listings for December:


EXHIBITION 
CLUB TO CATWALK: LONDON FASHION IN THE 1980S 
10 JULY 2013 – 16 FEBRUARY 2014 

Club to Catwalk explores the explosion of London fashion in the 1980s and shows the creative relationship between catwalk and club wear. It looks at how the impact of underground club culture was felt far beyond the club doors, reinventing fashion worldwide. More than 90 outfits are on display, including those made specifically to be worn at clubs such as Heaven and Taboo, creations designed and worn by the flamboyant performer Leigh Bowery, studded biker outfits by Pam Hogg and Katherine Hamnett, customised denim jackets by Vivienne Westwood and Richard Cornjeo, jumpsuits by Bodymap and exuberant knitwear by Joseph and Artwork. These are shown together with accessories by designers including Stephen Jones and Patrick Cox.

DISPLAY 
CHRISTMAS TREE 2013 
3 DECEMBER 2013 – 6 JANUARY 2014

To celebrate the festive period, the V&A has commissioned artists Helen and Colin David of English Eccentrics to create a Christmas Tree for the Grand Entrance of the Museum. The ‘Red Velvet Tree of Love’ is traditional in shape but coated in visceral red flocking to give a deep velvet like appearance. Reaching 4.75 meters high, the scarlet Christmas Tree is decorated with 79 sets of hand cast replica antlers and 67 white, heart-shaped baubles.

FASHION IN MOTION: MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF 
FRIDAY 6 DECEMBER 2013; 13.00, 15.00, 17.00, 20.00

Meadham Kirchhoff will be the subject of the V&A’s next Fashion in Motion. Design duo Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff are known for their theatrical collections which reference past eras. They will present highlights of their womenswear collections to date in four free catwalk shows on 6 December.

HELLO, MY NAME IS PAUL SMITH

The Design Museum takes you into the world of fashion designer Paul Smith, a world of creation, inspiration, collaboration, wit and beauty. Celebrating his career to date and exploring future developments, the exhibition references Paul Smith’s influences and fashion designs, charting the rise of this quintessentially British label which has become one of the leading fashion brands in the world.

Looking at the impressive scale of its global operation today, the exhibition draws on Paul Smith’s personal archive, from the company’s beginnings in Nottingham to its international prominence today. The exhibition explores how Paul Smith’s intuitive take on design, together with an understanding of the roles of designer and retailer, have laid the foundations for the company’s lasting success and offer a unique insight into the magnificent mind of Paul Smith.
