TORONTO - Caitlin Power does not need the word power in her name to prove to the national and international stages that she is a strong design force. It certainly helps to electrify her presence in the fashion world, and as the name evokes, there is strength and influence in her ideas. But assistance, needed or not, aside, there continues to be a growing loyal following forever ready and willing to propel her name further into the limelight, and Rent Frock Repeat just happens to be one of those contemporary disciples.

On November 13th, Rent Frock Repeat and Caitlin Power teamed up for an exclusive shopping event at the RFR showroom. With one rack stacked with her almost all black previous fall-winter collection, all eyes, mine at least, were on her spring summer collection - the bright counterpart to previous months designs. Mixed together and blending perfectly was a range of separates, dresses and jackets in white, black, moss green, and red. Patterns were few - a thick chevron on crop tops and dress, and what I creatively labelled the “lie-detector” pattern; just like the name connotes, is a black scribbly horizontal line that perfectly mimics someone under complete control in a lie detector test. They are cool, calm, and collected.... and so is this collection.

It was well coordinated and well balanced, offering what a wardrobe really needs - a little bit of this, a little bit of that. On the one end of the rack you had a day-to-night red dress and on the other, you had short leather shorts, with blouses, jackets, coats and pants in between all created with a “less is more” approach. This course of design action may be confused by some as meaning boring but those few are terribly mistaken. Because of the fine balance she strikes between beautiful without the ample embellishment, her clothes become reoccurring pieces in your wardrobe rather than an item for the moment or for the mood.

What began as a trek to some far away Bloor-intersected location in heels that were assassinating my feet turned out to be a night of beautiful clothing, formidable people, spectacular wine, flavourful mojitos, wicked doughnuts, and first class chatter. Thank you Rent Frock Repeat and Caitlin Power (and a shout out to The Wine Sisters) for a fantastic evening. Remember to keep your beautiful eyes out for Caitlin Power and what is to be more of her to come.
