TORONTO - Last night Fashion Studio Magazine attended exclusive Media Launch of Startup Fashion Week, the world's only fashion week that represents the newly-developed intersection of fashion, business and technology.

Founder and Managing Director Jodi Goodfellow created this initiative after establishing her own online business and discovering the gap in the market - there wasn't enough support and exposure for startups in Toronto. "It takes a community to build a business in fashion." - said Goodfellow during last night's launch - "Events like this spark a lot of interest and are a great way to promote businesses."

The evening commenced with a premiere screening of #FABUTECH, a short documentary about entrepreneurs in FAshion, BUsiness and TECHnology, followed by a brief Q&A and networking opportunities.

Taking part in the Media Launch was a unique chance to find out more about the origin of Startup Fashion Week and to get familiar with its three-day program. The event was also a great networking opportunity.

Some of the participants included Jodi Goodfellow, founder of Startup Fashion Week, Prerna Chandak, owner of Shopanthropic, Robert Tu, founder of MeU, Polina Roufanova, founder of Love Winter, Cindy Roemer, style coach and image consultant of Windfall Basics, Sarah Catalfo, fashion designer and founder of Maybe by Catalfo, representatives from fashion brands Christian Rex and Saanse, Tom Emrich, founder of We Are Wearables, and Janet Han, creative director of The Wild North.

Delicious cocktails, Harmonie Blush and Blue Orchid, were provided by HPNOTIQ.

3 Days of Fashion

With the Future of Fashion Forum on Tuesday and Business of Fashion Conference on Wednesday, the #StartupFW program looks really interesting.

We personally can't wait for the Future of Fashion Runway Show taking place at Hang Loose Media Studios on Thursday. The show will present collections from five emerging designers: Maybe by Catalfo, The Wild North, Atelier Guarin, KLATT by Alanna Klatt and VANIKA. Bringing technology into the runway experience, the event will be a definite highlight of Startup Fashion Week.

A Piece of Advice

So what is most important if you are thinking about setting up your own fashion business? "Vision and personality, getting to know yourself really well." - says Robert Tu, founder of MeU.
