Last month, Fashion Studio Magazine set out on an amazing train adventure with Amtrak Southwest Chief. Our journey from Chicago to Los Angeles was definitely one of the best travel experiences this year.

Shopping Paradise

Chicago, the starting point our trip, is a vibrant city that is worth visiting at any time of the year. From excellent dining and stunning architecture to trendy boutiques and vibrant art scene, there is lots to see and do here.

"Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is the great Chicago shopping experience with an abundance and variety of boutiques and stores to spark every interest, meet every need and delight every visitor.

The shops on The Magnificent Mile are as diverse as the goods they sell, with towering shopping centers, chic designer studios, intimate specialty retail shops, iconic department stores, lavish luxury boutiques and trendy favorites all within an easy stroll." -

Fashion Focus, Chicago’s Fashion Week, takes place once a year, in the beginning of October.

Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

Just a block from central Chicago's upscale Magnificent Mile street, this contemporary hotel features stylish rooms and suites, indoor swimming pool, and luxury business amenities. It is hard to think of a better place to stay in the Windy City - Hyatt Chicago has everything you may need.

"Enjoy a day filled with entertainment starting at Navy Pier followed by fashionable shopping on the Magnificent Mile, and fantastic cuisine at local Chicago restaurants. Enjoy a walk along the Lakefront Trail showcasing vast views of Lake Michigan adjacent to the Chicago skyline. When you are not exploring Chicago, get recharged in our Hyatt StayFit™ Gym.

And when you need to get connected and inspired, our 20,000 square feet of meeting space is the ideal destination for everything from conferences to wedding celebrations." - Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

Recommended Attractions

Here are our top five places that you shouldn't miss while visiting Chicago:

1) Millennium Park - the ultimate outdoor art gallery containing some of the greatest public art pieces in the world.

2) Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) - currently holding Kerry James Marshall: Mastry exhibition (until 25 September 2016). Read more about the exhibition here.

3) The Magnificent Mile - cosmopolitan, history-packed section of Michigan Avenue featuring some of the best shopping, dining, and entertainment.

4) 360 Chicago - formerly known as the John Hancock Observatory, 360 Chicago offers dining, sights and an interactive tour from 1,000 feet up on the 94th floor (voted Best View in America by Travel & Leisure magazine)

5) Willis Tower - one of the tallest buildings in North America, cultural landmark and iconic Chicago tourist attractions featuring an exciting Skydeck Chicago.

"Chicago boasts some of the best cuisine, attractions and entertainment in the U.S., including several of the top 100 restaurants in the country, the tallest building in the US, and one of the best orchestras in the world in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

From shopaholics and sports enthusiasts to thrill seekers and foodies, Chicago has something for everyone." -

For more information about the city, have a look at Chicago Official Visitors Guide.

"Steely skycrapers, top chefs, rocking festivals – the Windy City will blow you away with its low-key cultured awesomeness.

It's hard to know what to gawk at first. High-flying architecture is everywhere, from the stratospheric, glass-floored Willis Tower to Frank Gehry's swooping silver Pritzer Pavilion to Frank Lloyd Wright's stained glass Robie House. Whimsical public art studs the streets. So you're walking along and wham, there's an abstract Picasso statue that's not only cool to look at, you're allowed to go right up and climb on it.

For art museums, take your pick: impressionist masterpieces at the massive Art Institute, psychedelic paintings at the mid-sized Museum of Mexican Art or outsider drawings at the small Intuit gallery." - Lonely Planet
