MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK BERLIN

BERLIN (06 July 2011) - Since 10.00 this morning the fashion carousel has been turning again in the capital. Michael Sontag got the 9th Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin underway with his show in the event venue on the new site on Straße des 17. Juni by the Brandenburg Gate. As title sponsor Mercedes-Benz is delighted that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin gains in importance in the fashion industry every season, drawing decision-makers, fashion enthusiasts and designers in ever increasing numbers. Fittingly, the first day featured a top-quality, diverse programme and captivated guests right from the start.

The first VIPs have also arrived in Berlin and are looking forward to the traditional Fashion Night event organised by Mercedes-Benz and VOGUE at Borchardt restaurant. These include Boris Becker and the stars involved with the current Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week motif: model Jessica Stam, the photographer Terry Richardson and designer Giles Deacon. Over the next few days the Mercedes-Benz Lounge will again be the meeting place for a host of famous faces. Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler will also be taking a short break from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters to enjoy the fashion following his spectacular win at the Norisring last weekend. The show by Iris van Herpen organised by Mercedes-Benz und ELLE promises to be a particular highlight. She is regarded as one of the hottest young talents and has just presented her work at the Haute Couture Shows in Paris

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Fran Arias is a Spanish photographer born in 1979 in Avilés (Asturias). He is a grandson of the painter Marcelino Menéndez. Semi-blind in one eye, a circumstance that provides a unique talent in selecting subjects and framing them (clearly visible in the works). His recent work concentrate more on the artistic part of photography and on the creation and transmission of moods, visions and feelings. Jose is a co-author of a book “Palabras de Myanmar” and a 3rd prize winner in the national photography competition organized by UGT-MCA.

Art for Progress Runway Show NYC 2011





Art For Progress fashion show took place on May 14th, 2011 in the stylish Headquarters Gallery in New York (Tribeca). The event was a fundraiser for the arts education program and featured three talented  designers, winners from the recent international competition, "Clash of the Artists 2011"Ricardo Ramos (Berlin, Germany), Mihaela Cirlugea (Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and Lucia Racekova (Brooklyn, NY). The avant-garde collections of the young designers included historical references, detailed handwork and bold graphics.

Art For Progress is a nonprofit organization, with an international collective of designers, artists, photographers, musicians, DJ's and film makers.
