SINGAPORE - French Couture Week 2012, a highly anticipated fashion event showcasing exquisite pieces from Parisian Haute Couture houses, opened at The Pavilion at Bayfront yesterday evening.

The catwalk shows were attended by both local and international celebrities including a Japanese designer Kenzo Takada and a fashion critic Suzy Menkes.

The opening night started with a showcase of Yiqing Yin, a Chinese designer based in Paris. It featured amazing dresses with ruffles and folds like origami, luxe fur jackets and statement gowns with crystal embellishments.

The opening night ended with a dynamic show by Julien Fournié. The French designer paid tribute to the 80s disco decade with Asian models sporting afro hair and eye-catching makeup. The playful mood of the show - dance tunes of Diana Ross and Stephanie Mills and candy pop colours of the designs - proved that serious Haute Couture can be a lot of fun.
