Two weeks ago, Fashion Studio Magazine had the pleasure to interview Cailey Ward, SUGARMOON General Manager. We found out a little bit more about this trendy downtown studio and the services it offers. We also tried their fabulous St. Tropez Tan and couldn't be more happy with the natural look, healthy glow and long lasting effect!

FASHION STUDIO: How would you describe the style and atmosphere of SUGARMOON?
CAILEY: We like to be very welcoming, we like this to be a very safe environment for our clients, cause some people get very nervous when they are coming in for their hair removal. You know, we sort of think about this place as home. We love it when we can see that our clients are very comfortable here as well and they tend to think of it as a very safe environment too. So just friendly, and welcoming, and accepting.
FASHION STUDIO: What could you say about the studio design?
CAILEY: Well, as you can see we are a little bit girly, with the purple - it seems very calming, but it’s kind of fun. We like to have fun, we like to have sort of little pops of things that are interesting, cause we spend our days here, so we want to be interested as well.
We like colour and we like anything that’s going to make what we carry look wonderful, because we love all of our products, so we like the place to look a little bit interesting.
It’s a nice bright environment. It’s lucky that we have such high ceilings in this building. I love the elevator. It was the first electric elevator in downtown Toronto. It’s fabulous and it just gives the whole building a lot of character. It works well for us, cause we like a little character too.

FASHION STUDIO: What are the main services that you offer?
CAILEY: Primarily we do hair removal using sugar. Sugaring has so many advantages. It’s very clean - there is no double dipping. It doesn’t harbour bacteria, it doesn’t stick to your live skin cells, so most people find that it’s much less painful as well; it gives you sort of a gentle exfoliation. It’s fabulous!
You don’t have that feeling like your skin needs to heal right after. There is no damage to your skin at all. So you just feel soft and wonderful immediately. It’s fantastic, it’s all natural. And it’s not hot, so there is never the worry that someone is going to get burnt…
So there are so many advantages. We apply the sugar into your hair growth and remove the hair in a direction it grows in - which means that the occurrence of breakage and the amount of ingrowns that people tend to get are hugely reduced.
In general it’s healthier for your skin, it’s cleaner, and the results have the tendency to be much better and more long lasting because we can get the really tiny hairs as well. It’s pretty wonderful.
FASHION STUDIO: How about the tanning services?
CAILEY: The tanning services are so much fun and everyone looks fabulous afterwards. St. Tropez is great. The fears that a lot of people have around spray tan is that it’s going to look orange, or it’s going to be streaky, or it’s stinky, or it’s going to stain their clothes. None of that applies to St. Tropez. They’ve done a really wonderful job of making a fabulous product that looks natural and wonderful.
