Giordano has become the first major international fast fashion brand to enter the African market of Zambia.

The company will open its first store in Lusaka’s East Mall at the end of this month.

“Most clothing brands operating in Zambia are from South Africa and can claim to have a Pan-African presence at best. I think Giordano will be the first genuine global clothing brand to come to Zambia with a global footprint of over 40 countries in four Continents with Africa now being the fifth,” director of Giordano Zambia, Chirag Mittal, said in a statement.

“Anyone who has travelled to Dubai or Hong Kong will know this brand and know that it stands for great quality clothing at a great quality price. Zambians increasingly like to dress well and look sharp,” Mittal said.

Giordano was founded in Hong Kong in 1981 and has spread to many markets worldwide with strong presences in Asia and the Middle East. It has 2500 stores globally in more than 40 countries, including Canada, Australia and Russia.

Forbes Middle East ranked Giordano as one of the Top 100 companies making a difference in the Arab World.

The Zambia store will sell men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and accessories. Mittal has commissioned a design for Zambian national polo shirts for men and women with the number 64, signifying the year of Zambia’s independence, printed on the front.

“We wanted something special and unique for Zambia. Something cool that you can wear out anywhere in the world which would have style but also national identity. Zambians are a proud people and we have much to be proud of.”

The brand has also signed on former national football team captain and 2012 African Footballer of the Year, Christopher Katongo, as its brand ambassador.
