Toronto Fashion Week is one of Canada’s most prestigious and creative events, where some of the country’s most well known fashion experts gather to celebrate Canadian fashion. Along with the collections come the artistic designs from the people behind the scenes who complete each look to tell the designer’s story.

Among them is Grace Lee, Maybelline New York’s lead makeup artist at Toronto Fashion Week. Each year, she is the spearhead of a team of talented makeup professionals, who are under pressure to have the models ready quickly to hit the runway. I was able to speak with Grace this year at Toronto Fashion week to hear what she had to say about some of the new makeup products that Maybelline will be debuting this year.

Lip Colour Jolt by Maybelline

A little of this product goes a long way. A cross between a lip stain and a lip gloss, it can easily add a pop of colour to your face, and will stay on with little touch-ups. It comes in all bright colours including plum, which is sure to be a hit this fall.

Loaded Bolt Lipsticks

The name says it all! These are bold high-energy lipstick colours and now you don’t have to go past the drug store to get amazing pigmented lip colours that will last. Popular shades for this product include wine, black and midnight blue. It looks like a dark lip is the new “it” factor in makeup for 2016.

Spider Web Mascara

Grace was quick to express that many makeup artists LOVE this mascara. The spider web mascara aims to separate lashes in a natural way and the thin brush allows you to get right to the root of your lashes. It is also great for clients with small, thin or numbered lashes.

Maybelline’s New Strobing Stick

Grace is a huge fan of highlighting and the new strobing stick is something she has been anticipating for a few years now. She was excited to show how luminous this product was to apply. With a creamy and smooth finish, this product was a staple for the MONDOR fashion show and accentuates cheekbones and gives a radiant glow instantly.

Master Precise Liner

This appeared to be the product that created the magic in the perfect cat eye we were seeing all over the runway at Toronto Fashion Week F/W 2016. With a shorter applicator and the configuration of the brush, you are able to create either a thin or thick line of liquid liner. Depending on which angle you hold the brush, it is possible to create any eyeliner design with one product. I know I will be picking this up!

With all of these new Maybelline products coming out this July, there will be a whole new world of colour to explore; colours that are going to push the limits of traditional lip wear. Still Grace Lee’s favourite product to date is Baby Lips by Maybelline. It is her go to product that she can’t live without.
