Benefits of Wearing the Right Workout Gear

With a variety of designs and styles to choose from, workout gear has become a wardrobe staple in the fitness realm. From name brand running shoes, to pants made specifically for yoga, workout gear is making a big impact on the clothes we purchase. However, these types of clothing do more than just act as a fashion statement. Not only do they improve range of motion and increase safety, but they also prevent a multitude of injuries and discomfort. 

Still skeptical of getting clothes specifically tailored for workouts? Here are several benefits of wearing the right workout gear to your next fitness outing


Less Sweat and More Breathable

Retaining moisture and absorbing sweat easily, cotton-based clothing can leave a person feeling heavy, wet, and clingy at the end of a workout. Knowing that 85% of men’s clothing is made from 100% cotton, it is no wonder why a lot of people are left feeling subpar after a match of tennis or round of golf. 

This is why men and women need to look out for light, breathable, and sweat-wicking fabrics when purchasing their workout gear. There are numerous synthetic fabrics that are both breathable and sweat-wicking, ensuring your body stays cool and dry. Materials like nylon, spandex, or Dri-FIT will have the ability to keep a person feeling fresh and dry during a workout. It is also important to note that contoured fit and moisture wicking materials help to keep people cooler in the summer and warmer during the winter.

Let’s face it, you wouldn’t wear your work attire to the gym, as they were not designed for that activity. Whether you are doing a high intense drill workout, lifting weights, or going on a light jog, the last thing you want to be worrying about is your workout clothing. If you want to get the full benefits from your fitness regimen, start wearing clothing that won’t hold you back.

With a majority of modern workout clothes being made from flexible polyester, wearing clothes designed with a variety of motions in mind is key. For the best performance, choose workout gear that is flexible and allows your body to move freely. Make sure the clothing you pick out is not too fitted or tight, as you ideally want the gear to fit your body like a glove.

In instances of people wearing the wrong type of shoes, it is a common occurence to see numb toes, blisters, arch pain, or worse. For women, wearing a sports bra in an inappropriate size can cause decreased support or strap pain. It is highly important that workout gear is chosen with the following in mind: support, flexibility, type, size, and material.

This benefit is especially important to those who routinely work out at night, before sunrise, or in areas with poorly lit routes. Purchasing workout gear that is both bright and made with reflective material keeps both you and other road users safe from harm.There is no need to give up safety while pursuing outdoor workouts, just get the right attire! 


Protects From The Environment

The right workout gear can help to protect you from harsh environments. If you or someone you know is expecting to exercise in conditions a bit more extreme than normal, it is advised that the correct workout gear is purchased. If you plan to be out during the summer when the heat is on the rise, it is best that loose and breathable fabrics be worn to keep your body from overheating. Additionally, opt out of using any dark colors to ensure that the sun’s rays are reflected away from your body.

If you plan on working out during the winter, choose an outer layer that provides ventilation to allow for your body to easy regulate its body temperature. Multiple layers, mixed with breathable under layers, are advised to keep you both warm and dry.
