Toronto, ON - |FAT| Arts & Fashion Week takes place from 24 to 28 April 2012. It is a great chance to see some of Toronto’s best alternative fashion designers. In addition to runway shows, there will be performances, photography exhibits, and videos on display.

ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK - DAY 3

SAINT HOLLYWOOD BY UTA BEKAIA (NEW YORK, USA)

Georgian designer Uta Bekaia presented his latest collection at Alternative Fashion Week on Thursday. He showed an array of fabulous designs with twists of eccentricity, a distinctive colour palette, bold patterns and lots of details. His flexible and innovative approach to fashion can be seen in unique cuts and funky accessories, like face masks and original headpieces, by using imaginary prints and metallic fabrics, by mixing different styles, and by not treating fashion too seriously. The colourful clothes fascinate with their great attention to detail and unconventional solutions. Fashion as we know it is closing the door on head to toe matching and Uta Bekaia is one of many designers leading the way on that project.

Uta Bekaia was born in 1974 in Tbilisi, Georgia, and is currently living and working in New York. He finished his Fashion Design studies at Academy of Arts in Georgia in 1996. His work experience includes theatre costume design for numerous productions and shows in New York. Uta considers art his "spiritual journey" through life.

ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK - DAY 1

First day of Alternative Fashion Week started with a showcase of some talented young designers from Toronto and Montreal: Martin Lim, Paria Lambina, Thea Barber (Epoque), Demoyo, Emily Woudenberg and Jessica Clayton. The designs seen on the catwalk were simple and wearable.

Lubica - Slovakian born designer based in Jamaica - brought some fresh air with her creative and unique designs. Bright colours, geometric patterns, and interesting cut, made her collection stand out from the crowd. In my opinion, that is exactly what Canadian fashion needs - fresh, bold ideas and more imagination.

Belinda Visag from Mexico City showed a very feminine collection. Elegant, sophisticated designs for a modern city girl.

Zanete Auzina - a fashion designer from Riga, Latvia - presented some unusual forms and shapes. Her distinctive style and interesting use of fabrics attracted a lot of attention.
