Shopping in Malaysia has never been better. With a new duty-free status, the lowest prices in the region and some of the lowest globally, Malaysia is quickly becoming one of the most attractive destinations worldwide. Elegant shopping malls such as Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, and The Gardens Mall offer top designer brands, luxury beauty products, and fine dining, making shopping in Kuala Lumpur an unforgettable experience.

Most shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur are open everyday from 10am to 10pm.

A wide selection of local labels means you can find something both high quality and unique for an affordable price. For the latest gadgets and trendy urban chic try Fahrenheit 88 (the name reflecting the average temperature in Malaysia: 31.1 °C).

French cosmetics chain Sephora offers two whole floors of beauty products located in a fashionable Starhill Gallery. They carry a lot of international brands and have a huge range of Sephora's in-house products too. Second floor is devoted to a luxury beauty brand SK-II.

Tokyo Street at Pavilion KL offers a great variety of Japanese products and traditional Japanese cuisine. Wandering through the small boutiques packed with the latest colourful gadgets and modern design, you can almost forget that you are still in Malaysia.

In December all shopping malls are highly illuminated and host a lot of attractions for their customers: shows, concerts and competitions. Many stores offer promotional prices and weekend sales. The shopping fever has already begun...

Jalan Petaling, main street in Chinatown district, is great for budget shopping. The place is usually crowded both with locals and tourists; it is probably one of the most lively and busy streets in Kuala Lumpur. Most goods sold here aren't of the highest quality, but if you have enough patience to browse around, you can find some really interesting items: unique handbags, shoes, jewellery, and souvenirs.

The area has dozens of restaurants and food stalls, serving local favourites such as Hokkien mee (fried noodles cooked in Fujian style), Ikan Bakar (Malaysian barbecued fish), and traditional Chinese tea.

One of the best places to have a drink and relax after an intensive day of shopping is Sky Bar. Located on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel, the bar offers spectacular views of Petronas Towers and a chic, cosmopolitan atmosphere. It was named  'Best Malaysian Bar' by Malaysia Tatler.
